The month of July started off with with an amazing crew from Hawaiʻi Electric!

July 5th
Today, our regular volunteers were joined by a staff member from Full Life Hawaiʻi’s Summer Program. 
With restoration work taking place in several different areas of Lokowaka, everyone stepped into their roles with flexibility, care, and teamwork. Thanks to their willingness to adapt and support one another, we were able to complete every task smoothly. We are deeply grateful for everyone’s dedication.
Among today’s regular volunteers was a returning visitor from Japan who joined us once in the past. During this visit, she has returned to volunteer with us multiple times, and her continued support means so much to us. She also organized a fundraiser and brought donations to support our work—an incredibly generous gift for which we are sincerely grateful.
Later this month, we look forward to welcoming students from Full Life Hawaiʻi’s Summer Program to Lokowaka and sharing the experience of mālama ʻāina with them. 
本日は、日頃より活動を支えてくださっているボランティアのレギュラーメンバーの皆さまに加え、Full Life Hawaiʻiのサマープログラムのスタッフの方々にもご参加いただきました。
この日は複数の場所で、それぞれ異なる作業を同時に進めることとなりましたが、皆さまが状況に応じて柔軟に動いてくださり、それぞれの役割を丁寧に果たしてくださったおかげで、すべての作業を無事に終えることができました。心より感謝申し上げます。
また、今回のレギュラーメンバーの中には、日本からお越しの方もいらっしゃり、以前にもボランティアとしてご参加いただいたご縁があります。今回のご滞在中にも複数回足を運んでくださり、大変心強く感じております。さらに、ドネーションも集めてきてくださり、そのご厚意に頭が上がりません。
今月後半には、Full Life Hawaiʻiのサマープログラムの生徒の皆さんをロコワカにお迎えできることを、心より楽しみにしております。
July 11th
It was a hot day at Lokowaka, so our local volunteers, along with visitors from Washington and New York, spent the morning working in the cool water, removing a massive amount of invasive California grass.
The rewards came quickly. Even as we worked, an ʻalae keʻokeʻo (Hawaiian Coot) was already taking advantage of the newly opened water. Later, a second one joined, exploring the area together.
Moments like these remind us why every patch we clear matters. Mahalo nui loa to everyone who helped restore more open water for Hawaiʻi’s native wildlife.
A special mahalo to Brenda for bringing delicious banana bread and fresh fruit for everyone to enjoy after a morning of hard work. Your thoughtfulness and generosity were greatly appreciated!
今日はとても暑い一日でした。そこで、地元のボランティアの皆さんに加え、ワシントン州とニューヨークから来てくださった方々と一緒に、ひんやりとした水の中で外来種のカリフォルニアグラスを大量に取り除きました。
まだ作業をしている最中から、1羽のアラエ・ケオケオ（ハワイオオバン）が、私たちの近くに餌を取りにきました。作業を終えた後、もう1羽もやって来て、2羽で新しく広がったところを泳ぎ回る姿を見ることができました。
こうした瞬間に出会うたび、一つひとつの作業が確かに意味のあるものだと実感します。ハワイの在来の生きものたちのために、より良い環境を取り戻す活動に力を貸してくださった皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。
July 19th
We are so fortunate to have such amazing volunteers!
Today, our regular volunteers—including one visiting from Japan—were joined by a visitor from California. Together, we tackled maintenance weeding and trimmed back overgrown trees.
The overcast skies and cooler temperatures made for perfect working conditions, and thanks to everyone’s teamwork, we accomplished so much.
At the end of the morning, we were rewarded with some delicious pizzas! 
Mahalo nui to everyone for your hard work, positive spirit, and teamwork.

Nothing brings volunteers together like good food after a rewarding morning of mālama ʻāina!
今日は、レギュラーボランティアの皆さん（お一人は日本から滞在中！）に加え、カリフォルニアからの参加者も一緒に活動してくださいました。
維持管理のための草取りや樹木の剪定を行い、曇り空のおかげで涼しく、とても作業しやすい一日となりました。チームワークのおかげで、たくさんの作業を進めることができました。
作業の後は、おいしいピザでみんなのお腹も満たされました！
ご参加くださった皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。皆さんの頑張りと温かいチームワークに心から感謝しています。
そして、おいしいピザをご提供くださった Cafe Pesto と Antics Pizza、冷たいお水をご提供くださった Waiākea と Kōlea にも心より感謝申し上げます。いつも温かいご支援をありがとうございます。
頑張った後にみんなで囲むおいしい食事は、ボランティアの仲間との絆をさらに深めてくれます。マラマ・アイナの一日の締めくくりにぴったりの、幸せなひとときでした。

Today, students from Full Life Hawaiʻi’s Summer Program joined us at Lokowaka with their coaches and a chaperone. They arrived with great enthusiasm and a sincere willingness to help care for this special place. It was especially wonderful to welcome back two students who had previously volunteered at Lokowaka with their schools.

It was especially wonderful to welcome back two students who had previously volunteered at Lokowaka with their schools.Together, they planted nānea cuttings in pots for future restoration projects and helped cover a problem area with plastic sheeting to suppress invasive California grass. Their hard work and positive attitudes made a real difference.
A very special mahalo to Allison for teaching everyone how to propagate nanea from cuttings. Allison worked with us last summer as a Kupu member, and it was wonderful to have her share her knowledge and experience with the students.
Mahalo also to Sam for helping us host this amazing group and ensure everything ran smoothly.

ナネアの挿し木を鉢に植える作業や、外来種カリフォルニアグラスを抑制するためのシートを敷く作業を手伝ってくれました。生徒のうち2人は、以前にもそれぞれの学校と一緒にLokowakaに来てくれたことがあります。
昨年Kupuメンバーとして一緒に活動してくれたAllisonが、nāneaを挿し木から育てる方法を皆んなに教えました。心から感謝しています。
また、今日のこの素晴らしいグループの受け入れを手伝ってくれたSamにも、心より感謝します。皆さんのご協力、本当にありがとうございました！

We are so grateful that visitors from Washington and California chose to spend part of their vacation in Hawaiʻi lending us a hand today!
Although it rained on and off throughout the morning, our small team kept going and accomplished a great deal of maintenance weeding together.
Mahalo nui for your hard work, positive spirit, and willingness to mālama ʻāina with us. We hope you enjoy the rest of your time on Hawaiʻi Island and will visit Lokowaka again someday!
ワシントン州とカリフォルニア州からハワイ旅行で訪れている方々が、今日、旅行中の貴重な時間を使ってLokowakaで私たちの活動を手伝ってくださったことに、心から感謝しています！
雨が降ったり止んだりのお天気でしたが、私たちの小さなチームは最後まで力を合わせ、メンテナンスの草取り作業をたくさん進めることができました。
一生懸命、私たちと一緒に mālama ʻāina（大地を大切にすること） に取り組んでくださったことに、心より mahalo nui。ハワイ島での残りの滞在も素晴らしいものになりますように。そして、またいつかLokowakaに戻ってきてくださることを楽しみにしています！
