Unlike river-fed systems, Lokowaka Pond is sustained by freshwater springs that emerge near the coast—connecting the upland watershed to the ocean through underground flow. This spring-fed, brackish ecosystem supports native species and carries deep cultural significance.
Through restoration efforts, we are reviving Lokowaka’s ecological integrity and honoring its cultural legacy.
Today, at the World Oceans Day event at the Mokupāpapa Discovery Center in Hilo, we hosted our outreach booth to raise awareness about the vital role of wetlands in connecting land and sea.
ロコワカ・ポンドは川からではなく、海岸近くに湧き出る淡水の泉（プナヴァイ）によって支えられています。これらの泉は地下水を通して山から海へとつながる流れを生み出し、在来種が生息する汽水生態系を支えるとともに、ハワイの文化的な価値を持つ特別な場所です。
