September 7th
California grass grows very tall and eventually falls over under its own weight. In just 2.5 months, that’s what happened in this area. Today, we cleared away the fallen grass with the help of volunteers from our community, including a UHH Bonner Leader, and visitors from Poland.
The pono travelers from Poland joined us on their honeymoon—it was even their last day in Hawaiʻi! We are so grateful for their kōkua.
To top it off, a kind young man drove by and offered to haul away our green waste. Mahalo nui! He truly felt like a makana from ke Akua—a gift from God.
カリフォルニア・グラスはとても背が高く成長し、自らの重みでやがて倒れてしまいます。わずか2か月半で、この場所もそのようになってしまいました。今日は、地域のボランティアの皆さん、UHHのボナーリーダー、そしてポーランドから来てくださった方々と一緒に、倒れた草を取り除きました。
ポーランドからの「ポノ・トラベラーズ」のお二人は、なんとハネムーンでハワイを訪れていて、しかも滞在の最終日に参加してくださいました！本当にありがたいことです。
さらに嬉しい出来事がありました。通りがかった親切な若者が、トラックで刈り取った草を運ぶのを手伝うよと声をかけてくれたのです。まさに ke Akua（神様）からの贈り物＝makana のように感じました。特に草よりも過去に切った木をなんとかしたかったので、それを運んでもらうことができました。
September 11th:
Nanao High School students and their teacher, together with a professor from Kanazawa University, joined us from Japan today!
We started in the rain and ended in the sunshine—removing a huge amount of invasive California grass. Mahalo for your hard work and aloha!
今日は、石川県立七尾高等学校の生徒さんと先生、そして金沢大学の教授がボランティアに来てくださいました！
雨の中で作業を始め、最後は太陽の下でたくさんの外来種カリフォルニアグラスを取り除くことができました。生徒たちは勇気を出して深い泥の中でも作業でくれました。本当にありがとうございました！
September 24th:
Today’s volunteers joined us from Illinois, Oʻahu, and Hilo. Together, we tackled some maintenance weeding and planted ‘ae‘ae. We are so grateful for their kōkua—mahalo for spending extra time with us and for working in the mud to help the pond heal.
今日は、イリノイ州、オアフ島、ヒロからボランティアが参加してくださいました。みんなで草取りの手入れをし、‘ae‘ae を植えました。泥の中での作業や、予定以上に時間をかけてくださったことに心から感謝しています。マハロ！

Lokowaka has truly become a gathering place for amazing people! 
We love our volunteers — it’s always a joy to reconnect with our regulars and to welcome new faces.

Mahalo nui to the Tourism Cares Meaningful Travel FAM group for visiting us at Lokowaka on our community volunteer day yesterday, together with staff from the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau! We were grateful for the opportunity to share our work and show how we restore and care for the ʻāina.
