January 7th
Even though the World Wetlands Day event at Keawāwa Wetland on Oʻahu was canceled, our outreach team still spent time observing birds at the site. We saw 4 ʻalae ʻula, 5 mallards, 1 kōlea, 1 cattle egret, and 2 zebra doves. This small pocket of estuarine wetland is an important habitat for the critically endangered ʻalae ʻula, reminding us how vital even small wetlands are for biodiversity and resilience.

オアフ島のケアヴァーヴァ湿地で予定されていた世界湿地の日のイベントは中止となりましたが、私たちのアウトリーチチームは現地で野鳥観察を行いました。アラエ・ウラ4羽、マガモ5羽、コーレア1羽、アマサギ1羽、チョウショウバト2羽がいました。この小さな湿地は、近絶滅種(個体数が極めて減少している絶滅危惧種)であるアラエ・ウラにとって重要な生息地であり、小規模な湿地であっても欠かせない存在であることを教えてくれます。
February 15th
Today was such a special day at the Waikoloa Dry Forest. We met so many wonderful people at our booth during the Wiliwili Festival, and it was extra meaningful to see Patrick and Kumikoʻs family there too, visiting from central and northeastern New York, Oʻahu and Waimea.
Special mahalo to Your True Nature for generously providing their meaningful “Advice for Life” products as prizes for our coin-drop game at our booth.
今日はワイコロア・ドライ・フォレストで開かれたウィリウィリ・フェスティバルでブースを出展しました。たくさんの素敵な方々と出会い、さらにパトリックとクミコのご家族が、ニューヨーク州の中部と北東部、オアフ島とワイメアから来てくれたこともあり、より一層心に残る一日とりました。
February 16th
The weather wasn’t the nicest, but we were blessed with plenty of sunshine in the form of our kaʻalokuloku (unafraid to brave the elements) volunteers today. Our regular crew was joined by two enthusiastic couples visiting from Alaska and Indiana, plus Patrick and Kumiko’s family from central New York and Oʻahu. It was extra special to welcome back the Alaska couple, who volunteered with us a year ago! 
お天気には恵まれませんでしたが、今日はどんな天候でも恐れずに来てくれるkaʻalokuloku なボランティアのみなさんが、太陽のような明るさで作業に取り組んでくれました。いつものメンバーに加えて、アラスカとインディアナから来てくれた元気いっぱいの2組のご夫婦、そしてニューヨーク州中部とオアフ島から来たパトリックとクミコの家族も参加してくれました。1年前にも一緒にボランティアをしてくれたアラスカのご夫婦に再会できたことも、とても嬉しかったです！
February 20th
Huge mahalo to the 2nd graders from Kua O Ka La Public Charter School, along with their amazing teachers and chaperones!Today they removed regrowth of California grass that was getting out of control. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and willingness to get their hands dirty were incredible.
They also gifted us many ʻAhuʻawa that they grew at school—so special!
We’re so grateful for the mālama ʻāina in action—these keiki are true environmental champions!
今日は、地元の小学校Kua O Ka Lā Public Charter School の2年生のグループが、先生方、そして付き添いの皆さんと、カリフォルニアグラス がまた生えてきてしまったとろで除去作業を行ってくれました。みんなの元気とチームワーク、そして一生懸命取り組む姿がとても素晴らしかったです。
子供達も大人たちも、とても楽しんでくれました。そして学校で育てた ʻAhuʻawa をたくさんプレゼントしてくれました。
マラマ・アーイナを実践してくれるケイキたちに心から感謝します。

Students from the World History & Global Studies classes (grades 10–12) at Keaʻau High School came to mālama the ʻāina with us today.Last month, some of our beloved volunteers were invited into their classroom to share about volunteering. Today, the students put those lessons into action—practicing their kilo (observation) skills and getting their hands dirty to help heal the ʻāina.

今日は Keaʻau High School の10〜12年生の世界史・グローバルスタディーズのクラスの生徒さんたちが、マーラマ・アイナの活動に参加してくれました。先月は、私たちの大切なボランティアメンバーが数名が授業に招かれ、ボランティアについてお話しする機会がありました。
そして今日は、キロ（観察）のスキルを実践しながら、実際に手を動かしてʻāinaを癒す作業をしてくれました。

The bank by the road is looking beautiful after some well-deserved maintenance care, and at another location, a new frontier is opening up. Big progress, strong teamwork, and even stronger community.

A little TLC goes a long way.
