December 13th
What a wonderful Lokowaka ʻOhana Day it was! Regular volunteers were joined by new faces, including visitors from California and Canada—one of whom was a returning volunteer. Together, we focused on covering piles of removed grass with black plastic sheeting, an important step in preventing regrowth and supporting long-term restoration efforts.
The day was made even more special by the presence of native wildlife. A pair of nēnē (Hawaiian goose) spent time in the restoration area, an ʻio (Hawaiian hawk) soared overhead, and ʻalae keʻokeʻo (Hawaiian coot) were close by—powerful reminders of why this work matters.
素晴らしいロコワカ・オハナ・デーとなりました！いつも参加してくださるボランティアに加え、カリフォルニアやカナダからの参加者もあり、その中にはリピーターの方もいらっしゃいました。今回の主な作業は、除去した草の山を黒いビニールシートで覆うこと。草の再生を防ぐための大切なステップです。素晴らしいチームワークでした！
作業中には、ネーネー（ハワイガン）がつがいで現れ、イオ（ハワイノスリ）が空を舞い、アラエ・ケオケオ（ハワイオオバン）も近くにいました。この場所の特別さと活動の大切さを改めて感じる一日でした。
December 17th
We had an incredible impromptu workday today—just what we needed. Widening the channel we created this summer allowed us to make real progress.
今日はタイミングよく急きょ実現した作業日で、素晴らしい一日になりました。今年の夏に池の中に茂ってしたカリフォルニアグラスを抜き取って水の循環を促したところを、さらに広げることができました。
December 18th
A pair of nēnē raced ahead of us to the spot where we planned to continue our work from the day before. When they arrived before we did, we took it as their gentle direction to shift our efforts to a different area. The day unfolded with some maintenance weeding and new clearing to create another channel. It turned into another incredible impromptu workday!
前日から続ける予定だった作業場所へカヤックで向かう途中、2羽のネーネーが私たちと競うかのように飛んできました。私たちより先にその場所に着いたので、ネーネーからの導きとして、私たちは別の場所で作業をすることにしました。維持管理のための草取り作業に加え、新たに草を刈り取り・抜き取ったところは、実は池の一部であるということがわかり、今後は潮が満ちてくると、そこに水が流れます。今日もまた素晴らしい作業日となりました。

Lots of sunshine today—not just from the sky, but from our amazing volunteers! 
Many hands = lighter work! Together, we moved many invasive trees that had already been cut and tackled a whole lot of California grass, making real progress for the ʻāina. Mahalo nui to everyone who powered through the heat with smiles and teamwork.

December 21st
A group of GIVE volunteers , a visitor from Washington, and a community member worked hard to remove California grass and move a large pile of previously cut and freshly cut invasive trees. A year ago, we couldn’t even access this area. Slowly, section by section, we cleared a path through dense California grass. Once we were able to reach this place, we continued the work—cutting and removing invasive trees, one area at a time—until this open space began to emerge. Mahalo nui for your hard work in the heat and your teamwork!
GIVEボランティアの皆さん、ワシントン州からの旅行者、そして地域のメンバーが一緒に力を合わせ、カリフォルニアグラスの除去や、以前に伐採した木々と新たに伐採した木々を運ぶ作業に取り組みました。1年前は、この場所には足を踏み入れることさえできませんでした。私たちはカリフォルニアグラスが密に生い茂る環境を、少しずつ区画ごとに刈り払い、道を切り開いてきました。ここにたどり着けるようになってからは、侵略的外来種の木を一箇所ずつ伐採・除去し、今のような開けた空間が少しずつ生まれてきました。暑い中での懸命な作業とチームワークに、心から感謝します。
December 28th
Our final volunteer day of 2025 was spent caring for the areas we restored this year. As we worked, a barn owl appeared, and an osprey was soaring nearby. It was a great day of work.
2025年最後のボランティアデーは、今年私たちが再生してきたエリアの一部を丁寧に手入れする一日となりました。作業中にはメンフクロウが姿を現し、近くの空をミサゴが舞っていました。とても充実した作業日でした。
