August 10th:
A big accomplishment today with many incredible volunteers — both long-standing and new — from our community, Kona, Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Colorado, and Japan. Together, we cleared a large area of invasive California grass, opening new space for wildlife. Nēnē were nearby and will surely enjoy this freshly restored area soon.
今日はたくさんの素晴らしいボランティアの皆さんと大きな成果をあげました！地元コミュニティだけでなく、コナ、オアフ島、カウアイ島、コロラド州、そして日本からもご参加いただきました。みんなで力を合わせて外来種のカリフォルニアグラスをたくさん取り除きました。近くにネーネー（ハワイガン）が来ていましたが、間違いなくすぐに今日草を取り除いたエリアを利用してくれます。
August 24th:
It was a wonderful workday today with our regular and new community volunteers, joined by mindful visitors from California. As we step into a new malama (Hawaiian lunar month), it feels like the perfect moment to set intentions and embrace new beginnings. We’ve started incorporating ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi into our introductions at the start of our work together. Mahalo nui to Pualena for helping this dream come true.
今日は常連のボランティアさん、新しく参加してくださった地元の方々、そしてカリフォルニアから来られた旅行者たちと一緒に作業をしました。新しい malama（ハワイの旧暦の月）に入るタイミングで、意図を立て、新しいことを始めるのにふさわしい時です。作業開始前の自己紹介にʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi（ハワイ語）を取り入れ始めました。私たちのこの夢を実現するお手伝いをしてくださった Pualena さんに心から感謝します。
August 30th:
Lokowaka’s dedicated volunteers were joined by new community members, UH Hilo Bonner Leaders, visitors from Oʻahu, and students and professors from Ryukoku University’s Department of Agriculture in Japan. Together, their caring hands made a big impact in clearing invasive California grass.
Mahalo to Cafe Pesto Hilo Bay for providing delicious pizzas, and to Waiakea for keeping everyone refreshed and hydrated. Mahalo also to @thecoconuttraveler for Paleo Bars, to Manami for Fresh-baked bread, and to Shin for Mrs. Barryʻs cookies from Kona.
今日のロコワカの活動には、常連ボランティアに加えて、新しい地元のボランティア、ハワイ大学ヒロ校のボナーリーダーたち、オアフ島からのボランティアたち、そして日本の龍谷大学農学部の学生と教授の皆さんが参加してくださいました。大勢の皆さんの温かい協力により、外来種カリフォルニアグラスの除去がかなり捗りました。
美味しいピザを提供してくれたカフェ・ペスト、お水を提供してくれたワイアケア、パレオバーというスナックを提供してくれたザココナッツトラベラー、パンを焼いてくれたマナミさん、コナからミセスバリーのクッキーを持ってきてくださったシンさんにマハロ！
