January 3rd
Today was our first volunteer day of 2026. We spent the morning doing maintenance weeding near the road with some of our regular volunteers, working steadily through a cool day with rain coming and going. At the end, we offered our newly composed ikūmaumaua—a prayer of thanksgiving—to Lokowaka for the very first time.
今日は、2026年最初のボランティアデーでした。数名の常連のボランティアと共に、雨が降ったり止んだりする中、維持管理の草取り作業を行いました。
作業の終わりに、私たちは新たに作られたばかりの ikūmaumaua（感謝の祈り）を、はじめてロコワカに捧げました。

When the heavenly pools overflow,
rain falls from Kūlanihākoʻi.
What Lokowaka gives is intangible.
It is given to us, the guardians,
brave guardians of the freshwater pond.
The love of the land beats within.
The responsibility is placed upon us here.
It is us indeed.

天の池が満ちあふれるとき、クーラニハーコイから雨が降り注ぐ。
ロコワカは、形のない目には見えないものを与えてくれる、
私たち、守る手たちに授けられる。池を守る、勇敢な守り手たちに。
土地への愛は、私たちの内に脈打ち、
任務は、ここにいる私たちに託されている。
ほかならぬ私たち。
それは、まさに私たち。
それは、私たちなのです。
The weather mirrored the prayer exactly—and it mirrored us. Rain fell off and on throughout the workday, and we were kaʻalokuloku—brave, steadfast, unafraid to meet the elements.
Each of us received a different gift of spirit from Lokowaka. What was given could not be seen, but it was deeply felt.
We are deeply grateful for the privilege of being entrusted with this journey.

今日の天気は、雨は降ったり止んだりで、この祈りそのものでした。私たちは カアロクロク(自然の厳しさを恐れず、揺るがず、立ち向かう者)。
それぞれが、ロコワカから目に見えない贈り物を受け取りました。それは心に深く感じられるもの。
この活動の歩みを託されているという特別なご縁に、私たちは深い感謝の気持ちを抱いています。
この感謝の祈りを形づくるにあたり、指導と教え、そして温かな支えを与えてくださったクム・サム・オフ・ゴンに、心からの感謝を捧げます。
January 11th
Such a beautiful day—sunny but not hot. We got the kayaks out and tackled California grass removal from the water. A lovely couple from Wisconsin joined our community members, and everyone worked hard. Grateful for good weather and good people.
快晴で、心地よい気温でとても気持ちのよい一日でした。カヤックに乗って水の上からカリフォルニアグラスの除去作業を行いました。ウィスコンシンから来られた素敵なご夫婦と地域のメンバーが一緒に力を合わせ、最後まで一生懸命取り組んでくれました。良いお天気と、良い人たちに感謝です。
January 15th
Kamehameha Schools third graders visited Lokowaka, where they observed the pond and wetland, conducted a bird survey, and harvested ‘ae‘ae for outplanting. 
カメハメハ・スクールの3年生がロコワカを訪れ、池と湿地を観察しながら鳥の調査を行い、アエアエ（‘ae‘ae）を集めてくれました。
January 17th
Today, our community volunteers were joined by a lovely couple visiting from Seattle to help clear a section overgrown with California grass. We are deeply grateful for their hard work and dedication. Thanks to their efforts, a new area has begun to open up—right where we left off last summer.
Mahalo nui to Cafe Pesto Hilo Bay, Antics, Waiakea, and Kōlea Hop Water for helping make our Lokowaka ʻOhana Day such a special gathering.
今日は、地域のボランティアの皆さんに加え、シアトルからの旅行で来られた素敵なご夫婦が、カリフォルニアグラスの除去作業を手伝ってくださいました。皆さんおかげで、昨年の夏に作業を終えた場所から、新たなエリアが少しずつ開け始めました。心から感謝しています。
カフェ・ペスト、アンティックスピザ、ワイアーケア、コーレア・ホップ・ウォーターのおかげで、ロコワカの「オハナ・デイ」は心温まる特別な集いとなりました。マハロ・ヌイ。
January 21st
The second group of Kamehameha Schools third graders helped us with maintenance weeding today. Their positive energy and enthusiasm became part of the ʻāina, and we are so grateful.
今日は、カメハメハ・スクールの3年生の第2グループが、除草などの維持管理作業を手伝ってくれました。子どもたちの前向きなエネルギーと熱意が ʻāinaの一部となり、私たちは心から感謝しています。
January 24th
It had been approximately 4.5 months since the last time we worked in this area, making it time once again for maintenance clearing to keep the area open. We are so grateful for our volunteers, both new and seasoned, from this island, Colorado, and Japan.
前回このエリアで作業を行ってから約4.5か月が経ち、再びメンテナンス作業を行う時期となりました。この島、コロラド州、日本から集まってくれたボランティアの皆さんに心から感謝しています。
January 31st
What a great day under the sun! It was so good to see familiar faces, including the lovely couple from Colorado, and to welcome new volunteers, including the Old Navy team from Prince Kūhiō Plaza. Incredible work clearing a brand-new area together. We are so grateful for everyone’s hard work.
太陽の下でにの素晴らしいボランティアデイでした！コロラドから来ている素敵なご夫婦や地元のリピーターたち、そしてプリンス・クヒオ・プラザのオールドネイビーのチームをはじめとする新しいボランティアの皆さんをお迎えできたことを、とても嬉しく思います。みんなで力を合わせて新しいエリアを切り開きました。本当に素晴らしい成果でした。皆さん一人ひとりの懸命な働きに、心から感謝しています。
