Beyond the workdays at Lokowaka Pond, ʻĀina Hō‘ola Initiative has been actively engaging with the community to share the cultural and ecological significance of Hawaiʻi’s precious ecosystems. As a newly established organization focused on the restoration of Lokowaka Pond, ʻĀina Hō‘ola is deeply grateful for the recognition and support of many respected individuals, organizations and agencies. This collective support not only uplifts our mission but also strengthens the shared commitment to stewarding and healing our ʻāina for future generations.

Hawaii Tourism Japan (HTJ) Summit Meeting
The event brought together travel-related companies and organizations from both Japan and Hawai‘i to connect and network.
During his presentation, Scott Pauli, Executive Director of the Island of Hawai‘i Visitors Bureau (Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau), highlighted the value of regenerative tourism on Hawaiʻi Island. We were honored that ʻĀina Hoʻōla Initiative was recognized alongside Waikōloa Dry Forest Initiative and Hui Aloha Kīholo as meaningful volunteer tourism opportunities.

ハワイ州観光局 日本支局により、2025年4月18日（金）にオアフ島で「ジャパン・サミット2025」が開催され、日本・ハワイから旅行会社/OTA関連企業が情報交換の機会となりました。
ハワイ島観光局のエグゼクティブディレクターであるスコット・パウリ氏は、プレゼンテーショで、ハワイ島におけるリジェネラティブ・ツーリズム（再生型観光）の重要性を強調しました。その中で、旅行者もボランティアに参加できるところとして、Waikōloa Dry Forest Initiative、Hui Aloha Kīholo、そして私たちʻĀina Hoʻōla Initiativeを紹介してくださいました。

Conversation on Reciprocity: Guest speaker
@keitohirakawa kindly invited Kumiko to speak about our wetland restoration work and the reciprocal relationship we cultivate with the land. She created this beautiful flyer and heartfelt message to promote the event, and we are truly touched by her kind words and support.
This talk was something she had wanted to organize ever since we first met—after learning about our mission, the sincerity behind our efforts, and the warm volunteer community that’s grown around our work. We are so grateful to her for making it happen and for generously donating the proceeds (after fees) to support our nonprofit.
Mahalo also to everyone who attended the event. Your interest, care, and presence truly mean a lot, and help us continue this important work to restore and protect Hawaiʻi’s precious wetlands and native species.

Earth Day at UHH
We were honored to participate in the 37th annual Lā Honua / Earth Day Celebration at the University of Hawaii at Hilo on April 17, 2025!
ʻĀina Hoʻōla hosted an outreach booth during the K-12 portion of the day, engaging with hundreds of curious and enthusiastic students.
Later, we shifted focus to college students. We were inspired by their thoughtful questions, passions, and ideas for contributing to Indigenous science and environmental restoration.
Mahalo nui to the event organizers for creating such a vibrant space for learning, connection, and community.
